One-time or recurring
A one-time weeding gets beds that have got away from you back under control. Recurring keeps them there, which over a season is usually less work and less money than repeatedly rescuing them.

Weeding and weed prevention do different jobs. Pulling clears what is there; a pre-emergent stops the next lot germinating. Doing one without the other is why beds look clean for a month and then do not.
