The point of a trim is the shape the shrub holds afterwards, not how much came off. Cut back into the right growth and a shrub fills in; cut flat across the top and it goes thin in the middle and stays that way.
Clippings go with us
Clippings left in the bed mat down over whatever is underneath and pull the look of a fresh trim straight back down. They get cleared and taken, so the job is finished when we leave.
